How To: Avoid Water Spots

There’s nothing more annoying than getting to the end of washing the car, and noticing that water spots have formed, ruining the appearance of all of your hard work. Follow our top tips below to avoid water spots each time you wash your car.

  • Wash your car in a shaded area or during cooler times of the day. If the sun is shining directly on your car, the water will evaporate quickly and leave behind water spots.
  • Use a high-quality car wash soap that is specifically designed to rinse clean and leave behind no residue. Avoid using dishwashing detergent or any other household cleaning products, as they can leave behind a film that attracts water and promotes water spots.
  • Use a soft, clean microfiber towel or chamois to dry your car after washing. Start at the top of the car and work your way down, making sure to dry each section thoroughly. Avoid letting the car air dry, as this can lead to water spots.
  • Use a water softener or deionized water to rinse your car. Hard water can leave behind mineral deposits that can cause water spots. If you don’t have access to soft water, you can use a waterless car wash product to clean your car without using water.
  • Apply a wax or sealant to your car after washing. This will help to repel water and prevent water spots from forming.
